HHSC is performing certification/recertification review of all Durable Medical Equipment (DME) providers.  Over the past few weeks HHSC has been making site visits to Medicaid enrolled DME suppliers to verify operations and enrollment data.  Medicaid DME suppliers must cooperate with the HHSC investigators; a failure to do so may result in termination of a supplier’s Medicaid contract.

During the review, investigators will need to speak with provider personnel able to answer basic operational questions.  The investigators may also ask to take pictures of a DME supplier’s premises.  Finally HHSC will likely request certain documentation regarding a DME supplier’s operations, including copies of licenses and accreditation certificates, DME warranty policies and information, insurance coverage, hours of operation, accessibility and management/owners.  This information is usually requested by 5 p.m. the day of the visit.

We are aware of these DME investigations taking place in Houston and San Antonio and understand that HHSC may be in the Valley next week.  Please let us know if you have any questions about this process.
